Carol and Neil are are successful in terms of grades, but not very popular at their highschool. When Carol comes to know that two foreign exchange students from France and Italy were redirected to another school, she figures she and Neil could take their places and be in the middle of public interest for one semester.

Two school friends obsessed with a fantasy card game called Battle Day Zero inadvertently bring one of the characters, Hiro, to life. His arrival coincides with that of a Japanese exchange student who he is mistaken for, allowing him to live among the confused townsfolk. The fact that he functions as an anime character in a normal toon world is the source of much confusion and comedy. However, our unlikely heroes manage to keep their new guest's true identity a secret until they can work out how to get him back to his own world. This becomes more difficult when the portal they have opened allows more and more exotic creatures into their sleepy town. Life will never be the same again, and as our leads discover, it is far more exciting this way.

John Stitt and Max Cameron are two boys fanatical for the card game "Battle Day Zero." One day the combination of a wild storm and a mysterious booster pack suddenly means they can bring Hiro, one of the game's characters into their world. Excited but worried their secret will be discovered, the boys decide to take Hiro to school where he is mistaken for a Japanese exchange student. Despite this temporary solution the portal being open means that more people and monsters from Hiro's world can travel to Earth, wreaking havoc on the small town. The boys decide in order to get things back to normal they must send Hiro back but not before their school dance is overrun with Battle Day Zero characters.
